okay, so let me preface this by saying that this is going to be a rant.
so don't read it if you don't want to.
first of all.
what is it with people ALWAYS being on their phones? asdfjk it annoys the fuc.k out of me. especially when you're hanging out with someone or you're out to dinner with a group of friends and they all just pull out their phones like they have separation anxiety and can't be off twitter for like two fuc.king seconds. it's really annoying. And RUDE! like when did that become acceptable? Oh wait, it hasn't.
It's just like if you'd rather be texting someone else or posting something or liking something or tweeting about what you're (NOT) doing...then why bother hanging out with other people. It's just so insulting. Like am I not worthy of your time?
And the thing is...it's not just my friends that do this...it seems everyone does it now. The sad part is we're so connected via social media that we've forgotten how to live in the moment. like what happened to staring out the window on a short car ride? Now, we have to be glued to our smart-phones checking for the latest updates. God forbid we miss someone post a status about how they're doing something stupid and dangerous #yolo
NO. You're not doing anything except being a lame-o and being addicted to your phone. Anti-social much? And it's not like I don't see how smart-phones can be addictive, I have an I-phone like the rest of the world. I just don't feel the need to whip it out every second. I'm sorry I don't stalk instagram or even have a twitter.
Am I the only one of these people left??
Honestly, what have we come to?
Where it's acceptable to instagram a pic of the sushi you've just gotten before even eating it? Or conversing with actual people?
Excuse me if I feel like if I'm on my phone when I'm surrounded by other people, i feel like I'm being rude and anti-social.
Sure, we all have those occasional awkward/boring moments when we're alone, so we take out our phones to entertain us. But when you're in the company of other people-other people that, by the way, you've elected to hang out with-what's the point in being glued to your phone?
I just think it's terribly insulting.
WHICH is the lead in to my next rant:
since when did it become okay to dress up like a native american?
apparently my backwards school thinks it's perfectly acceptable and our spirit week is "the wild west" so the junior class are "Indians".
well first of all, they're not called fuc.king Indians.
I'm an Indian.
THEY are Native Americans.
Second of all, it's not okay to trivialize someone else's culture by dressing up as them! And not even as them, as their stereotypes. Wearing feathered headdresses and war paint is, in my eyes, extremely disrespectful. You can't play with a culture that Americans have oppressed, murdered, and all but destroyed.
And I think it's safe to say that mainstream America can agree that you just don't dress up as Native Americans anymore. I'm not talking like a specific one, like Black Hawk or whatever, I'm talking about a Native American in general.
For them, it's comparable to someone doing "blackface" and saying they're dressing up as an African American.
YOU CAN'T DO THAT
And to all the people who say they are not trying to mock the Native American culture, and are just "honoring" it or remembering it, YOU'RE FULL OF SH.IT.
It doesn't matter what your intentions were/are. It's extremely offensive and quite honestly I'm appalled that people are ignorant enough to believe that it's okay.
It's not okay.
And don't give me any crap about this just being an example of America's increasing political correctness.
Because it's not.
It's wrong and you shouldn't do it. Even if you thought you were being all "cutesy" and "hipster" by wearing a huge feathered headdress. That's a huge stereotype and it's offensive to Native Americans. So you probably should stop that.
You know a Native American girl at my school complained to administration, saying that she thought the juniors dressing as "Indians" was offensive.
So now, the juniors can't wear feathered headdresses or war paint.
But the sheer number of people who were complaining today that they couldn't do that...it really scares me.
What's happened to us, America?
Society?
When did we become these self-absorbed, docu every second of our day, ignorant as.sholes?
It's really on a whole different level right now.
Meh.
If you read all of that, CONGRATS!
